News from SCIS:

Primary Round Square Book Donation

The Primary Round Square Community Service students have been involved in preparing books for donation to schools in the Arusha region and beyond. There were several of the same titles in excess in our school therefore we thought that to share the love of reading with other Tanzanian children would be in line with the goals of our Round Square programme. Several students from Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 spent time stamping the books for donation and then allocating sets of books. Later in the term, we then delivered in person to St Gemma Galgani Mateves and Kisongo Primary School. The books were received with open arms and many of the Standard 5, 6 and 7 students will benefit from the books. At Kisongo Primary School, our students spent some time sharing the stories together in a shared reading session. Promoting reading in students can help to build and raise literacy skills in Arusha. Our young St. Constantine’s students were happy to share the experience although initially shy and out numbered by the local Tanzanian students, they embraced the opportunity to be immersed with like minded children.
